Navajo Nation Poll Officials Poll officials are recommended by their chapter through a duly called chapter meeting. A chapter's recommendation for appointment of poll officials must be in the office of the Navajo Election Administration thirty (30) days before an election. If there are no poll officials recommended by the chapter, the Navajo Election Administration may assign poll officials for the affected polling site. Poll Officials must meet the following qualifications: Shall be able to read and write in English and converse fluently in the Navajo Language. Shall attend one poll official training. *Only Chief Poll Judges are required to attend two (2) training sessions per election. Shall not be a candidate for an elective office of the Navajo Nation. Shall not openly support any candidate or issue in a referendum election Shall not serve if a relative such as a spouse, parent, child, brother, sister, or grandparent is a candidate on the ballot shall serve as a poll official within that precinct or chapter.

The Navajo Nation Presidential Election is conducted every four years for the President, Vice-President of the Navajo Nation, the Navajo Nation Council and the Election Board. The Navajo Nation Chapter Election is conducted every four years for the positions of the Chapter Officers (President, Vice-President and Secretary/Treasurer), Grazing Committee members, Land Board members, School Board members, Farm Board, Election Board and Kayenta Township Commission. The Navajo Election Administration is also responsible for conducting Special Elections. Special elections are held to fill existing vacancies. Referendum Elections are conducted to afford the Navajo People to initiate changes to the Navajo Nation Government. There are several ways to put referendum on the election ballot. Other elections, the Navajo Election Administration assists with other elections such the election of the Speaker of the Navajo Nation Council, student council elections at area schools. These other elections are provided as public service and voter education.
