Job Interview Tips Reddit Videos

I feel like this is a gift and a curse as I'll want to refine my answers constantly. I can wear a fancy shirt and pajama pants just like they do in the movies. Sorry for mobile formatting.

What do you guys think of pre-recorded video interview ? : jobs

Hey guys. I've been out of the job hunt for a long time, 5 years at my current place, which was the only interview I'd taken since 4 years at my previous place. I'm pretty comfortable in an interview setting when face to face, but I've never done a video interview before. I have one tonight for in their support department. The job is fully remote, so I'm not sure if at any point the interviews move to face-to-face, it may be video-only. Do any of you have any tips for video interviews? Specifically when it's for a job working from home. How would you dress? How do I make eye contact (look straight at the camera? )? My gut feeling is to wear a dress shirt, but I'm not sure what the culture of the company is like. I guess the old "you can't overdress" holds true? Any tips appreciated - interview is tonight after work, a little nervous:)

What are your thoughts on this? From what I can tell you it's just a video of yourself answering a bunch of pre-determined questions into a camera. This is the first I've heard of a "one-way" video interview for a sys admin position. Is this typical? It feels very impersonal. Also, the job description states, under the "responsibilities" section, "track time and work". I get the impression that, by having this listed under "responsibilities" (with only about 6 other items) this is the type of employer that expects you to use one of those time management applications that tracks when you get up to take a piss. I just can't understand why they'd specifically put "track time and work" in the job description. If this were an hourly help desk or call center position I'd understand, but for a non-exempt salaried role? Am I making too many assumptions here?

About half of the first response I get from my applications are a request for a pre-recorded video interview (not live videocall). It's something I hate, so I systematically refuse these kind of interviews for several reasons (I don't like being filmed and scrutinized, I don't enjoy speaking alone without a response, I also feel like it might be not worth the time to prepare this interview since if they use those kind of tools, that means that you're still on a big pool of candidates). I've talked about it among some of my classmates and we all agreed about that. I'm curious about what others think about that. What are pros of this for candidates, except completing it whenever you want (although deadline is most of the time really short)?
